Psycho-social interventions support TVET in Makeni

In September 2024 MADAM hosted 24 TEVT teachers from Makeni in the conference hall for a 6-day training on the Youth Readiness Intervention (YRI). This evidence based mental health intervention is specifically developed for young people in Sierra Leone. The curriculum is divided into 12 modules, with sequential 90 minute group sessions designed to be delivered by non-specialists. The YRI has three phases which are delivered in a sequential fashion: stabilization, integration, and connection, and teaches young people to manage emotions, set goals and work towards achieving them, and teaches stress-management skills.

At MADAM three groups of students are following classes and they have completed 7 modules. At Youth Build, one group of male students and one group of female students are working on the programme on Wednesday mornings. Two groups of young females, from T-Investment and from Next Chance Innovation, have completed the full programme of 12-modules.
