In 2024, the President of Sierra Leone declared a national emergency due to the rising crisis of drug abuse, particularly concerning “Kush,” a cheap synthetic drug that is impacting youth across the nation. In response, MADAM is collaborating with local partners and the Civil Peace Service (CPS) to raise awareness about this critical issue through community engagement meetings.

To further extend our outreach, we have trained peer counsellors who visit schools to educate students about the dangers of Kush and promote healthy choices.

Additionally, we are working with Action for the Rehabilitation of Drug Victims (ARDV), a rehabilitation centre in Makeni to support young men and women who have overcome addiction. Our program offers psychosocial support and scholarships for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at MADAM, helping these young people rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
